Las Vegas and Hoover Dam

We're camped for five days at Clark County Shooting Complex in Las Vegas.  We're five miles out of town and look down on the city.

The beam of light just right of center is the Luxor Casino.  it was brighter but it was interfering with pilots at night so it's toned down.  I'll take a better picture with the tripod but this gives you an idea.

We get to see some more stunning sunsets and cloud formations.

We spent one day shooting at the range and then it was time to clean all the guns.

We visited the Mob Museum in downtown Las Vegas.  It's a new museum and it was fascinating.  The history of the mob families and how they developed and interacted with each other was interesting.

She's been wanting to do this for years.

This is part of the original wall where the St. Valentines Day Massacre took place.  Those are the actual bullet holes.

We ate lunch at the Main Street Casino where they served Black Chip, a chocolate beer.  We'll need to go back for more.

This is the interior of the bar and that is a whole hell of a lot of beer.

We visited Hoover Dam and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area

When we were here five years ago, they were constructing the bridge over the gorge downstream of the dam.  We saw the two sides of it jutting out of the rock on both sides.  We wanted to come back when it was completed.  It's magnificent.

Some more views of the dam and the bridge.

The Nevada intake tower.

And the Arizona intake tower.

The dam provides power and water to four states.  All the water that flows through the dam from Lake Mead never reaches the ocean.  It all gets used for irrigation and domestic use.

The water in Lake Mead is down sixty feet as shown by the white exposed rocks.  The fear is that the water level will drop below the intakes.  They are digging a deeper tunnel for the water in case this happens.

We have a few more days here before we move to Lake Havasu.
