Heading East

We are now heading East on our way back home and should be there in about a month.  We have spent a good part of our time while we were out west in Arizona.  It is a state that we have fallen in love with.  From the beauty of the desert to the stunning scenery of the mountains, to the Grand Canyon, it has been a trip of a lifetime.  As we head East, spring is starting to bloom in the desert.  What was dormant when we arrived is now becoming an artists pallet of colors. Bright colored buds are adorning the tips of cacti, desert fields that were brown a few months ago are bright yellow and green with ground cover.  When one thinks of a desert, a picture of a wasteland can easily come to mind.  Quite the contrary, the desert is a magnificent living expanse of unique beauty.  Learning how plants and animals have adapted to the environment is a learning experience that can only be fully appreciated when witnessed first hand.  This will definitely not be our last time in this state.  We haven't even scratched the surface of what there is to enjoy here.
We have also explored some of the myriad offerings provided by several other western states and have tried to chronicle our experiences as best we could in our blog.  We are not finished yet but we felt it necessary to try and express our feelings for what we were so fortunate to see thus far.

On our way to our next stop, we drove through some beautiful landscape.

We stopped along the side of the road to stretch our legs and this herd of cows came over to see if we had anything to eat.

We passed this giant metal statue of a roadrunner.

On our way, we stopped at White Sands Missile Range and visited the museum.

Our next stop was White Sands National Monument.

The sand is pure white and is as fine as talcum powder.

Since we were just travelling through and towing the trailer, we didn't take the drive through the dunes and we had a destination to make.

We are now in Lakewood, New Mexico at another Escapee (SKP) park called The Ranch.  The people here are very welcoming and friendly.  Their happy hours every night are a lot of fun.

The park is full of wildlfe.  Bunnys are everywhere  this guy was hanging around under the RV.  We hear coyotes at night and the trees are full of doves.

I put this sign up along the footpath next to our site and to date, the response has been disappointing.

  1. The first photo is Texas Canyon (Arizona). Did they ring the bell when you arrived? You must go to happy hour the night before you leave. They'll sing to you.
