Northeast Adventure Part Two

We are camped at the Stonington KOA so we can explore the Mystic, Connecticut area.  We are here with about 15 other RV's for a rally.  It's nice to meet up with old friends for a week.

Our first stop was Mystic Seaport.  I was here about 50 years ago but this is Vickie's first visit.

We toured a tall ship and got a history of what life was like.  This ship is used as a training vessel.

We helped raise a sail while singing a sea shanty after we watched the crew climb the mast and unfurl it.  The shanty provides the rhythm for the crew to work in unison and all pull together.

Here is a replica of a Viking longboat.

We watched a whale boat demonstration.  Here, the crew is launching a boat from the ship.  The sailor with the mandolin was entertaining us with another sea shanty.

The crew demonstrated how maneuverable these whale boats really are.

Steve and I found a nice shady bench to watch the demonstration.

There were several buildings with photo displays.  Here are photos of women petitioning for the vote.  Steve is lending a hand.

All that demonstrating wore Steve out.

One building contained a display of figureheads.

At our pot luck dinner, Cindy Daniels brought a cake.  It was almost a shame to cut into it but that didn't stop us.

We all visited Battleship Cove.  When we got there, it was closed due to a power failure.  We could view the ships from the shore though.

We walked two blocks to the Maritime Museum.

There were many models of a variety of ships including this one of the Titanic

This model was used in the movie.

Here, a group of us on the grand staircase.

These models are beautifully detailed.

The HMS Bounty, incredible workmanship.
