Quartzsite #1

We spent two nights at Colorado River Oasis campground near Quartzsite.  It was a full hookup campground so we were able to do some laundry and flush our holding tanks before heading out to the desert.  It was a campground that went on our list to visit again.

While we were there, we took advantage of their hot tub and pool.

One morning, we had sourdough pancakes courtesy of John Kohl.  He's been travelling with us as we explore this beautiful country.

On Friday, we pulled into Quartzsite and headed out to our gathering spot in the desert about six miles out of town.

We helped the wagon masters lay out the circle so we can get as many RV's in as we can.  We should have about 75 rigs but only about 45 will fit in the circle.

The first four and the beginning of the circle.

On Saturday morning, I cooked bacon by generator for breakfast.

Once the flag goes out, we are officially set up.  It was pretty breezy in the morning but still was only sweatshirt weather.  It warmed up to 70 degrees in the afternoon.

We went to a New Christy Minstrel concert at the local community center in the afternoon.  They played many of their hits from the 60's with new songs mixed in.

There are three original members and four new additions to the group.  They have been playing here at this time every year for eight years.  Randy Sparks, fourth from the right, is the creator of the group.  He's 81 years old and quite a showman.  They have a goal through their foundation to play three free concerts in schools for every paid concert.  We had a great time listening to wonderful music.

Another beautiful end to a busy day.

Tomorrow should be busy.  Many rigs are planning on arriving and the circle will be filling up.  More to come.

  1. We were hoping to join you, but I tried to get up the steps and found that I could crawl up them, but then I couldn't get up from the floor. It's been two weeks today since my accident so we'll see next week how I'm doing. Say "hi" to everyone for us.
