California # 5- Napa Valley, Clear Lake, Coloma

We spent some time in Napa Valley. It was another beautiful day and the scenery didn't disappoint.

We passed many wineries, most with unique entrances.

We visited Peju Winery, my daughter Kristy's favorite.

We were told to ask for Richard when we got there.  He came in while we were tasting.  He knows Kristy and several other members of my family.  The guy is a hoot.   His co-workers describe him as crazy in a good way.

The grounds were beautiful.

We met our friend Gerry, who lives in Clear Lake and had a great time tasting.

Then, we went back to his house for the afternoon to visit with him and his wife, Joan.

As we were leaving, we had this view of Clear Lake.  It is the largest lake in California.

Then, we headed to Placerville. We are camped for several days in the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.  We have many people to visit here and the last few days have been busy with more days like it to come.

We went up to our friend, Brian Hayes' house and studio.  He is a commercial potter and pottery teacher.  That's Vickie standing in front of his studio.

Some views of his hilltop home.

As usual, we left with more of his work.  Vickie got some bowls she just couldn't do without.

This is one of the theaters I was part of for many years.  It wasn't open when we stopped by but I wanted to see it.  It's a melodrama theater and we had so many good times here.

Then, we drove the whole length of CA 153 (less than a quarter of a mile) to Marshall Monument.

This is the Monument of James Marshall.  He discovered gold in the tailrace of the lumber mill he was operating for John Sutter that started the California gold rush in 1849.

This marks the original site of the lumber mill.

This is a working reproduction of the mill.  They are in the process of rebuilding it.

We have another day here and more people to visit before we move on.
