California # 6- Death Valley

We left Placerville and headed south.  We have now made the turn and will start to head toward home, but not too fast.  We stopped at Orange Grove Campground in Bakersfield, Ca.  These are orange trees all through the park.

Here are olive trees at the entrance to the park.

The oranges were free for picking and we got a bag full.

We moved on to Pahrump, Nevada where we will spend the night..

Some of the views we were treated to on the drive.

We drove through Death Valley.  Again, we had the park almost to ourselves and the drive was beautiful.

We drove well over 100 miles through the park.

The rock formations were amazing.

The sun turned the hills into pallets of color.

We made it to the bottom of the valley.  Yes, that is -273 Elevation!

The valley floor.

As the sun set, the colors changed almost constantly.

Tomorrow, we head to Las Vegas for a few days where we will meet up with some friends.

  1. We've really enjoy following along with your trip via the blog. Lot's of great pictures. Wish we had tagged along. When you get back I want to get together and hear all the details. Like, how you planned a trip like this, how you find out about the places to visit and where to camp.
